Here’s a clip of Michael Emerson (wearing his “Person of Interest” sideburns) last night on the David Letterman show.
He talks about when he first started on LOST and about how the character of Benjamin Linus will be associated with him forever, for better or for worse. He’s funny when he talks about meeting people who have, bizarrely, named their babies after Ben.
Terry O'Quinn and Daniel Dae Kim on the Season 2 premiere of Hawaii Five-0
Terry O’Quinn (John Locke and Not-John-Locke) will be joining Daniel Dae Kim (Jin-Soo Kwon) on the second season of Hawaii Five-0, which starts on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10 p.m.
Here’s a promo clip. Seeing Locke, um, I mean O’Quinn in the island landscape sparked some deja vu moments:
O’Quinn was originally supposed to be in a show called Hallelujah, but ABC canceled plans for the show in May. In July, Zap2it wrote that ABC may be reviving Hallelujah and may be trying to rehire O’Quinn. I haven’t been able to find any news about the show written since then, so it seems doubtful. It’s too bad because it sounded like it would be really good.
I’m not a big fan of this incarnation of Hawaii Five-0, but maybe Terry’s joining the cast will inject new life or give a new direction to the show. The existing cast is already good, though — the problem (at least in the few episodes I’ve seen) seems to be mostly in the writing.
Michael Emerson promo photo for "Person of Interest"
According to the CBS blog Watch!, the network is moving CSI from Thursdays to Wednesday, and
[that gives] CBS the opportunity to make its gutsiest call, slotting Abrams’ Person of Interest in what [Adweek media critic Marc] Berman calls “TV’s most pivotal hour,” Thursdays at 9 p.m.
[CBS scheduling boss Kelly] Kahl admits that it may be a risk to plug Person of Interest into CBS’ marquee and CSI’s long-held time slot, but the show’s pilot—about a billionaire (Lost’s Michael Emerson) who bankrolls the crime-stopping capers of a presumed-dead CIA spook (Caviezel)—was the network’s highest-testing drama in 15 years. “It has huge, broad appeal,” [CBS Entertainment president Nina] Tassler explains.
Update 10/24/11: If you are looking for screencaps of the LOST references in the pilot episode of Once Upon a Time, those are here: LOST shout-outs in “Once Upon a Time”
————— original August 7 post:
I had a startling moment this evening. I was sitting in front of the TV, remote in hand, flipping quickly through the channels — and all of a sudden, the word “LOST” flashed on the screen, in white letters on a black background — followed by the iconic shot of Jack’s eye, opening.
WTF? I thought.
It turned out to be the last few seconds of an ad for “Once Upon a Time.” I had flipped to the channel at the exact moment the word “LOST” appeared on the screen and hadn’t seen the part that came right before, which was “FROM THE WRITERS OF …”
The connection, which “Once Upon a Time” is milking for all it’s worth, is that LOST writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are the producers of the new show.
I’m leery of comparisons to LOST, especially because “Once Upon a Time” seems so different — and because previous such comparisons (FlashFoward, The Event), fell flat. I’m definitely interested enough to check out “Once Upon,” though, when it starts — which is actually not for a while, considering that they are already hyping it so intensely. The pilot airs on Sunday, October 23.
I found a video showing Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse crashing the Entertainment Weekly (Jeff “Doc” Jensen and Dan Snierson) LOST panel, with Carlton wearing a Star Wars stormtrooper costume — supplied by a fan! — and Damon, a Dharma jumpsuit.
Here’s Carlton walking down the hall in his costume:
Videos via LOST in Comics, a blog written by fan artist JJ Harrison, whose poster was honored by Damon at the panel:
The LOST in Comics post has a description of the event along with pictures of Carlton putting on his stormtrooper costume backstage and then sitting, in costume, in the audience of the LOST panel, with no one around him realizing who he was.
In case you haven’t yet seen the “deleted” Season 1 finale scene Darlton showed at Comic-Con, here it is again:
This was just recently posted on YouTube, but I don’t know when it was made. I would guess around 2005 or 2006.
It’s interesting — it has Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan talking about how surprised they were that so many people wanted to see the series pilot at Comic-Con before the show was on the air. They had to get another auditorium because the room they originally planned to use couldn’t hold all the people who wanted to be there.
It’s great to see Evangeline and Dominic being so enthusiastic about their memories of that day and to see how excited they were when they first realized that LOST, as Dominic says, “was going to be gold dust.” It reminds me of how special LOST once was and what an incredible sense of anticipation I felt, especially during the show’s first year.
