No time travel? Hmmm ….

Kate and Claire in cab

In interviews last year, Darlton repeatedly said that there would be no time travel in Season 6.

Yet we just saw the LOST-ies move not only sideways, but also backwards in time to Flight 815. The Dharma LOST-ies also moved forward in time, up to the present.

If that’s not time travel, what is it?

Maybe what Darlton meant is that there wouldn’t be any more time travel. I guess technically the LOST-ies moved foward, sideways, and back during the last second of Season 5, during the white flash. Which would mean they were already in their new timelines by the time Season 6 began. So unless Darlton are totally (as opposed to only somewhat) pulling our legs, perhaps we can expect that the LOST-ies won’t be moving out of the new timelines where they’ve already landed.

But does that mean they will be stuck in dual timelines forever?

My head hurts. I need Hurley to explain this all to me. πŸ˜‰

Damon and Carlton talk about 6×01

notLocke in "LA X"

Jeff Jensen and Dan Snierson of Popwatch interviewed Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who talked about how long they’ve had the idea of the flash-sideways, some of the differences between the Season 1 and Season 6 flight scenes, why they wanted to do the dual timelines, and more. Very informative! Read it here: Damon and Carlton Explain a Few Things About the Start of Season 6.

Darlton were also on Jimmy Kimmel tonight, where they were quite entertaining. Here it is, in two parts:

Some questions about 6×01 “LA X”

The temple, LOST 6x01

I’m on the East Coast this week, so I got to see it earlier than usual.

That was mind-boggling. Loved the way it started twice, first in the sky, then on the Island. It’s like everyone gets to be right — the people who thought there would be a time reset AND the people who thought there wouldn’t.

Out of all the many questions raised in the episode, these are the questions that are melting my mind the most:

1. How can they be in two places at once? WTF?

2. Who are those other Others?

3. NotLocke seemed to admire RealLocke, in a way. Is that why he chose him to impersonate?

4. How did Sayid come back to life?

5. How did Juliet know the bomb worked?

6. Why does sand create a barrier that NotLocke/Smoky can’t cross?

7. Why is there a space in the title?

LOST start dates for other countries (according to Wikipedia): Feb. 4 in Israel and Ireland, Feb. 5 in the UK and Turkey, Feb. 9 in Spain, Feb. 10 in Italy and New Zealand, and sometime later in February in Australia.

Official ABC Promo: “Why are you on this island?”

This is a great promo from ABC. It’s got a lot of footage of Season 6. It’s got Locke saying he can answer “the most important question in the world: why are you on this island?” It’s got the smoke monster. It’s got skeletons (Adam and Eve?). It’s got Locke weighing a black and a white stone.

And it’s got a narrator saying “The time for questions is over.”

Answers! We’re going to get answers!

I can’t wait!

The LOST Last Supper photos

On the Ask A Question page, Geri wrote:

Any comments on the two ” Lost” Supper photos and why they are so different with the placement of characters?

Here are the photos. Click on them to see high-resolution versions:

LOST Last Supper 1, with everyone looking at Locke

LOST Last Supper 2, with everyone looking at the camera

Locke — or is it notLocke? — is in the center in both photos (we’re getting used to seeing him in the center, ever since the Season 6 promo poster). Here he is in the Jesus position, joining Jacob and even Sayid as a potential Jesus figure.

Characters that move from one photo to the next: Claire moves from the left side to the right, Miles moves from the right side to the left, Sun and Ben (close to each other on the right) swap places, and Hurley moves over one place to the right.

Unless the people behind these photos made random changes just to mess with our minds (which I think is a real possibility), what could it possibly mean?

In the first photo, Claire is sitting in a little grouping with Alpert and Ilana. All three of them are not exactly normal. Alpert has been alive for centuries, Ilana most likely has as well, and as for Claire, for a while there, it seemed like she was dead. So there’s this little grouping of strange people, but then in the next photo, Claire is in the middle of Jin, Sun, Ben, Hurley, and Lapidus — all people who seem to be living out a lifespan of a normal length.

So Claire can hang out with Jacob’s strangely long-lived followers, and she can also hang out with the regular humans. She’s a versatile woman! I expect we will see her come back being in some way different from the way she was before.

Miles moves in the opposite direction. In the top photo he is surrounded by Sun, Hurley, and Lapidus. In the bottom he has joined Ilana and Alpert. Is it possible that Miles will turn out to be one of Jacob’s people as well?

Hurley moves a little further from Locke, and a little closer to Lapidus. Maybe Hurley will be able to resist the lure of notLocke and save the LOSTies from notLocke’s destructive wrath.

As for Ben and Sun switching places, as many people have noted, in the facing-forward photo, Sun is next to Jin, but in the facing-Locke photo, they are separated — just as in the show they have been both separated and together.

An alternate explanation could be that Ben and Sun are going to somehow switch roles, but that’s too mind-boggling to contemplate. πŸ˜‰
