New LOST footage!

Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were surprise guests at Jeff “Doc” Jensen and Dan Snierson’s “Entertainment Weekly Presents Totally LOST One Year Later” panel at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con yesterday afternoon.

Darlton said they had a scene from the Season 1 finale that had never been shown before — and that it would prove, once and for all, that they had planned the ending from the start.

It was actually a joke, as the footage was shot last week. It’s pretty funny, though:

“Yahoo for you and your light.” LOL.

The new footage was shot by Jack Bender on a back lot at Disney.

Here’s a good write-up of the event: LOST producers reunite at Comic-Con.

“Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” movie — first trailer

The first trailer is out for the film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, directed by J.J. Abrams. Tom Cruise stars, and Josh Holloway plays a supporting role (I wish it were the other way around!). The film is scheduled to open in December.

The “Bad Robot” logo made me feel nostalgic.

It’s hard to even see Josh in the clip. The picture at the top of this post is from when he flashed on the screen for a fraction of a second, around 1:04 on the trailer.

(Editing to add): Here’s a short clip of Josh Holloway talking about what it’s been like working on the film. He said it’s been “like Disneyland for men” because of all the stunts and the action, and that working with Tom Cruise was an honor. When it came to stunts, he said, Cruise was a stud.

New role for Terry O’Quinn in “Hallelujah”

Terry O'Quinn as Locke in LOST 6x04 "The Substitute"

Terry O’Quinn has been cast in a new television musical drama about a Texas town torn apart by the forces of good and evil. (Hmmm … sounds familiar!)

O’Quinn will play the villain, “a charming yet wholly corrupt local millionaire who virtually owns the town.” That’s interesting, because Michael Emerson, in HIS new show, will be playing a billionaire (though apparently one on the side of good). So both of these actors are getting to play men with money. It must be their destiny! Ahem.

I don’t know what this means for the fate of Odd Jobs, the show that was originally going to star O’Quinn and Emerson and has now been delayed. With both of them starring in their own shows, it doesn’t look good for an O’Quinn/Emerson reunion show anytime soon.

I love musicals, though, so this is exciting news. I wonder if O’Quinn himself will sing. He’s quite a good singer — something I hadn’t expected before I saw a couple of video clips. Take a look:

O’Quinn singing “If I Loved You” in a 1991 made-for-TV movie

O’Quinn singing about being a “bad Daddy” (and proving that he’s been playing villains for a VERY long time)

Hallelujah will be produced by Marc Cherry and Sabrina Wind (Desperate Housewives) and will star Jesse L. Martin (Ed Green in Law & Order) as a stranger who comes to town “bringing justice, peace and possibly restoring faith.” Restoring faith — sounds like another LOST theme.

Michael Emerson: The good news and the bad news

First, the bad news. The television show Odd Jobs — which was supposed to bring Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn back together in a J.J. Abrams-produced project — has been delayed until next season.

The good news is that Michael Emerson has been cast as the lead in another new J.J. Abrams show, Person of Interest. He’s going to play a billionaire who hires a presumed-dead ex-CIA agent to catch violent criminals in New York.

This, strangely, combines plot elements of two other planned LOST-alumni shows: Jorge Garcia’s Alcatraz, which will be about a group of prisoners and guards who mysteriously disappeared and then showed up again 30 years later, and Odd Jobs, where Emerson and O’Quinn were to be ex-black-ops agents.

I wonder what will happen to Odd Jobs if Person of Interest becomes a hit. It seems unlikely that Emerson could star in two shows at once. I’ll be glad to see him in anything, but I really wanted to see him reunited with Terry O’Quinn.

Co-starring with Emerson are Jim Caviezel (Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ), Taraji P. Henson (Queenie in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and Natalie Zea (Winona in Justified). The writer is Jonathan Nolan, who wrote the story on which the movie Memento was based, and the screenplay for Dark Knight.

New York Magazine listed it as one of the 20 most exciting pilots of the upcoming TV season, even though they gave it only a 50-50 chance of actually getting on the air.

Jorge Garcia in “Mr. Sunshine”

Matthew Perry and Jorge Garcia on the premiere of Mr. Sunshine

I tuned into the premiere of the new comedy “Mr. Sunshine” and was surprised to see Jorge Garcia pop up about three or four minutes in.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jorge was invited to play a guest role on the pilot because Matthew Perry, the star, writer, and executive producer of “Mr. Sunshine,” is a huge LOST fan.

It was great to see Jorge. The show itself wasn’t so good though. It’s supposed to be a madcap comedy about the wacky life of Ben, the manager of a San Diego sports/circus/concert arena (Matthew Perry), and the colorful eccentrics surrounding him, but with the exception of a few funny moments, the jokes fell flat. The best part was actually the semi-serious subplot about Perry’s fear of commitment driving away his love interest, Andrea Anders, the liveliest actor among the regular cast.

You can catch a glimpse of Jorge in the video clip below:

New LOST bobble heads — Sawyer, Desmond, Jack, and Dr. Arzt

LOST may be long over, but new products keep on coming.

Four new bobble heads from Bif Bang Pow! are available for pre-order — although at this point, it looks like they won’t actually be shipped until June, 2011.

Lost Sawyer Bobble Head

The Sawyer bobble head has our nickname-loving hero wearing a shirt (alas!) and a jacket. For some reason, he is holding a gun — I’m not sure what scene this is referencing. He is also holding the letter that played such a poignant role in Season 1.

Lost Jack Shephard Bobble Head

The Jack Shephard bobble head is posing with Vincent the dog — an odd choice, in my opinion, especially since Jack’s two iconic scenes with Vincent involve Jack lying flat on his back in the jungle, a position which wouldn’t work for a bobble head, as it would interfere with the bobbling. 😉

Besides, whenever I see Vincent, I think, “Where’s Waaaaaaaaaalt?”

Also, is it my imagination, or is Vincent unusually small here?

The bobble head is meant to evoke the Series Pilot — it has Jack wearing a suit, with a bit of the wreckage of Flight 815 on the ground behind him. He’s also got some sexy stubble. In fact, he looks sexier as a bobble head than he did in the series. (Yes, as a Sawyer fan I’m biased, but it’s true!)

Lost Desmond Hume Bobble Head

The Desmond Hume bobble head shows the Season 2 Desmond, wearing a Dharma jumpsuit and standing by the Swan Station computer, where he is, presumably, about to type in the infamous numbers.

Lost Dr. Leslie Arzt Bobble Head

Last, but not least, is what I think is the best bobble head of the bunch — Dr. Leslie Arzt holding a stick of dynamite, about to blow himelf up — a scene which led to one of Hurley’s greatest lines ever.

Trailer for “Real Steel” with Evangeline Lilly

Robot in boxing ring from Real Steel trailer

Robot in boxing ring, from "Real Steel" trailer

“Real Steel,” which is in post-production and will be released sometime in 2011, is about robots who fight each other in the boxing ring. It doesn’t look like my cup of tea, even though it has several things going for it: it stars Hugh Jackman and features Evangeline Lilly (Kate) in an as-yet unnamed role; it has Steven Spielberg as a producer; and it is based on a story which was originally adapted to be a Twilight Zone episode.

According to Wikipedia’s synopsis, “Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.” Charlie ekes out a living making low-end robots from scrap metal, but when he “hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender… Against all odds, [they] get one last shot at a comeback” in the “brutal, no-holds-barred arena.”

You can see a couple of very quick glimpses of Evangeline in the trailer:
